Alba, Italy, and Truffles!

Alba, Italy, is a town in the Piedmont region and famous for its white truffles and wine. Indeed, a highlight of a visit to the region is to accompany a 'tartufaio' and his or her dog on a search for the elusive fungi.

One of our guides explaining the types of truffles and the regions where they may be found, and a young pup in training. In general, black truffles have been domesticated but the white truffle can be found only in the wild.

Our experienced dog on the hunt. Hogs were also used in the past to hunt for truffles, but that was prohibited decades ago because the hogs cause too much damage as they root for the truffle.

The beautiful Dosio winery is one of several in the region that focus on Barolo.

One of my favorite walls, ever.

A beautiful countryside with rolling hills.

The 18th-century Villa Beccaris is located on a hilltop just outside of Alba. The property has been updated to include a gorgeous sundeck and infinity pool.
