Milan: The Galleria, La Scala, and the Duomo

La Scala, above and under restoration at the time of our visit, is the most famed opera house in the world. Below, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was built between 1865-1877 and is one of the world's oldest shopping malls.

Of all the showplaces in Milan, none are more iconic than the famed Duomo.

Five wide naves are separated by forty pillars.

The Cathedral, one of the largest in the world, took nearly six centuries to complete.

The famed statute of St. Bartholomew Flayed, by Marco d'Agrate.

The stained glass windows relate the story of Christianity, an important consideration in an era when many of the faithful were illiterate.
