Kuala Lumpur: First Impressions

With a population of approximately 2,000,000 people, Kuala Lumpur presents a stark contrast to the tourist town of Malacca. Our first day was spent visiting some of the neighborhoods that make this capital city so appealing. First was a visit to colorful Little India. Indians comprise approximately ten percent of the population.

Although few signs of original Malay settlements remain, the government has worked to preserve Kampung Baru, a typical Malay village.

This unique pedestrian bridge offers stunning views of the soaring Petronas Twin Towers, 451 meters tall.

The Central Market was nearly demolished, but public outcry led to its preservation. The market is no longer lined with food stalls, but now houses a variety of shops and restaurants.

Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, is a warren of alleyways jammed with street food vendors.
